Your not gonna believe this.

Friday nite July 16.

10:00
We were enjoying a movie in the movie room, watching "Crazy Heart" with
Jeff Bridges. Its a sad movie so far, we never got to finish it.
Steve's phone went off. It was THE CALL. Mayo wanted me there by 11:00. So we shut down the movie and ran home. Gathered a few things, washed my face & brushed my teeth and headed to the ER at Mayo. I was the 3rd transplant patient that nite.

We were such an emotional wreck. We were nervous, scared, & elated. We were praying continuously for a successful surgery and for a quick recovery.

About 8am they wheeled me in to the OR and the last thing I remember was telling myself that I am in God's hands and He has a plan for me. I must accept whatever He decides for me. Then I went to that sweet place of sleep.

12:30pm
I woke up and was very relieved and thrilled. I had a new liver and in just 4and a half hours. (that should have been my first clue!) As they wheeled me past Steve, he was talking with someone and the look on his face told me the whole story. Then he came in my room and there were tears in his eyes. At first I did not understand, then he confirmed the story that I did not want to believe.

They were unable to transplant. The liver had expanded so much that it attached itself to other organs in my abdomen. Our surgeon called in a senior surgeon and they decided that it was too risky for a transplant.

I was crushed and Steve and I cried all day long. The next day was very difficult as we called our family and gave them the disappointing news. My mother and sister were especially hit hard so soon after my father's passing.

I am very tired right now so my next blog will be the second part of this story. Fortunately it doesn't end here. Please log on (hopefully) tomorrow to catch up. Any comments or questions please send them. Also so sorry for not answering my emails.

stay tuned.
God is with us,
Steve & Steph
